Tops was co-founded by Armandm Castellani, who was born in 1917 in a villiage outside of Rome, Italy. His family came to the United States in 1920, and eventually settled in Niagara Falls, where his father,Ferrante ,opened a small neighborhood grocery store.
In 1962, the first Tops franchise became official. The site was on Portage Road in Niagara Falls, New York. As of today, there are over seventy Tops grocery store chains throught the western New York State as well as Ohio and Pennsylvania. Futher more, the next generation of small but powerful, economic thrift stores like "Aldi''s" and "Save-a-lot" are nothing to sneeze at or laugh at by the faces of SuperWalmart.These low-key chain stores are growing faster than weeds in your lawn. These stores may be limited to carrying everything. However, these stores are winning customer loyalities time and time again.
Tops Friendly Markets have blossomed with out with micro stores by the names like b-kwik, wilson farms, and giant just to name a few. Tops Friendly Market first introduced it''s customers with a Tops Bonus Card program back in January of 1999.
